This can occur when the Yin (right brain) aspect of a person is active, but in a negative way. If the assertive Yang side has been suppressed, perhaps because of a dominant parent, then that person may use the feminine Yin side of their nature in an attempt to assert themselves.
The difficulty is that the Yin aspect of the personality cannot be used to mimic the Yang. The result is that the person then attempts to control situations by subversion. This "negative female" is typically secretive, not telling the whole story about things, and thus maintaining a hold on the situation.
This characteristic is due to a failure to grow up - maintaining the "deceitful child" who resorts to deceit because that is the only way they can assert themselves. Honesty helps us to overcome the need for these subterfuges.
